i think this was our first meal in ‘nam

we hurried out of our disappointing pacific hotel in hanoi and took to the streets, taking in the hanoi traffic and the heat.

Bún chả consisted of a bundle of rice vermicelli on a plate, some grilled fragrant pork, herbs and leafy vegetables. the stall assistant gestured to us showing us how it should be eaten; dumping everything into the syrupy bowl of soup that she had laid before us. 

it was curiously satisfying
